Penelope "Nellie" Simpson, a young, self-reliant artist, had made a place for herself in
the New Mexico art scene, only to be uprooted when her father became ill, forcing her return
to her hometown of Port Edgerton, New York, to run his business. Torn between her New Mexico
life and the one she found for herself back home, Penelope finds her life further complicated
when she falls in love with her high school friend Peter Vandegelder, while startling
revelations of the town's history unfold around them.

Songwriting Contest winner, Gary Paul Hermus has written and performed narrative story songs
for over twenty years. His first CD, “Sid’s Gaseteria,” was released in 2007. My latest CD,
"American Road," released in 2018, debuted 38 on the Folk DJ Charts. He is a member of the
Author’s Guild and the New Mexico Book Association. He currently publishes a monthly series
about his early years in the music industry entitled, "Road Work: A Memoir of a Life in Music."
